Paper: Real and Performed Egyptians in James Sanua’s The Unfaithful Husband

Yesterday in Atlanta, GA, I participated in the working group session "(Re)presenting Muslim Bodies of Performance" during the American Society for Theatre Research Conference “Extra/Ordinary Bodies: Interrogating the Performance and Aesthetics of ‘Difference.’” I talked about a play by James Sanua, seen as the father of modern day Egyptian theatre.

Reading: Thebes Land by Sergio Blanco

Continuing my collaboration with LaMicro Theater, on November 19 I'll direct a staged reading as part of Escena Sur - Latin American Plays. Thebes Land by contemporary Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco explores the themes of patricide and homoerotic attraction within a metatheatrical frame. For details see LaMicro's website.

Conference Organizer: Global Legacies – Pirandello across Centuries and Media

On September 16 we'll spend an entire day speaking about Pirandello's legacy at 150 years from his birth. Organizing this international conference has been the culmination of six years working with the Pirandello Society of America as board member, PSA Journal editor, and webmaster. At this event, I'll present the paper "Jorge Lavelli and Pirandello: A Year with Six Characters between France and Argentina.” Full program here.

Paper: The Argentines of Paris: Performance, Theatres, Networks

On September 1 between 1:40-2:40 pm at The Graduate Center, CUNY I'll present a short paper on the process of in the field research for my dissertation topic, Argentine theatre artists in Paris. Panel "Transculturation: Between the Americas and Europe," chaired by Giancarlo Lombardi during the 4th Annual Early Research and Scholarship Conference.

Reading: Drunken Ghosts by Chilean playwright Juan Radrigan

On November 19 I'll direct a reading of a play by Juan Radrigan, Chilean playwright, novelist and poet. In Spanish with English supertitles, Fantasmas borrachos is a drunken dream that portrays the confusion felt by the common man confronted with Chilean politics. The Bridge Theatre at Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th St, 12th floor (between Broadway and 8th Ave).

Director: Whereas Puppies Are Adorable by Tom Reed

We premiere tomorrow Whereas Puppies Are Adorable by Tom Reed, a scathing critique of the current over-conflicted Congressional atmosphere, within the Raucous Caucus political theatre festival organized by Box Wine Theatre. On stage an ensemble of energetic "political animals" embodied by (in alphabetical order) Charlotte Grady, Mahmoud Hakima, Anthony Paglia, Maya Schnaider, and Dennis Zavolock.
