Teaching Artist: Active Analysis and the Method of the Etudes

During the X International Theatre Summer Academy "Stanislavsky through New Eyes" in Rubiera, Italy, I taught a course on Stanislavsky's latest and most exciting method for rehearsal, active analysis. Despite the efforts of Maria Knebel, who assisted Stanislavsky, and a few Russian practitioners of the post-Soviet era, this method is still little known in the West. Yet, it affords the actor an unprecedented freedom on the stage by combining the rational, emotional, and subconscious powers of the performer.
